Practical Social Media for Researchers
If you’ve already decided that you want to get started with social media but you’re not sure where to start, this short course is for you. We’ll work out what social media you need, set up your accounts, and get your first content online.
About this course
If you have an idea of what you want to achieve with social media and you need an extra push to get started, then this practical workshop is for you. We’ll start off by assessing what your goals are and what social media tools are right for you, and then we’ll set up your accounts, review simple writing tips, and get your first posts in the pipeline. Along the way we’ll also cover editorial plans, management and measurement tools, multi-media resources and much more.
This course will cover:
- What’s your social media strategy? Objectives, audiences, outcomes.
- Choosing the right channels
- Setting up and optimising accounts
- How to write audience-focused content for different channels
- Planning ahead (editorial calendars and tools)
- Building your audience
- Measuring your impact
- Comments and engagement
- Multi-media posting
- Resources, tips, and tools
- Continual input and feedback
This is a practical, hands-on workshop. Participants need to be able to access the internet and work from a decent-sized screen like a laptop or desktop throughout the session.
This workshop is suitable for scientists, researchers, and subject-matter experts who want to engage with peers and non-experts online through social media and online channels, and who need a kick-start to get going.
By the end of this workshop, participants will have set up one or more social media accounts, learned how to optimise and manage and measure those accounts, and they will have the resources and tools to build an audience and share their research moving forward.
